The concept of freedom of the press holds that expression and communication via a variety of media, including print and electronic media, should be seen as a right that can be freely exercised. Freedom of press or media refers to the rights given by the Constitution of India under the freedom and expression of speech in Article 19(1)(a). It encourages independent journalism and promotes democracy by letting the people voice their opinions for or against the government's actions.
Press freedom: Why its importance?
The task of monitoring and counterbalancing the government and administration has been delegated to the press. The press is always the first to speak out when a societal evil is present or when tyranny and corruption take place.
Moreover, we rely on the media to gather, confirm, and publicize the data and information that affects people's judgments. The public will be in the dark if the press isn't allowed to undertake all of this.
It is evident that press restriction is tantamount to dictatorship. Press censorship is a clear indication that the administration is trying to conceal something. The truth is not hidden by anyone; only lies are. In this manner, the populace will be tricked into believing that everything about the government is fine.
The government will then acquire total authority when there is no longer any organization to report the truth.
Press freedom is critical to the proper operation of democracy. People should be socially conscious of what is going on in the world. The ability to criticize the government is essential because it will force it to act in the best interests of the nation.
What come in your mind when people say I am journalist .They which ur a person who is writing sensational news for money or just screaming in the television for something that is not important or make there on assumption about the new and putting forward an other new story .For instant The seema haider this is a new where a Pakistan women entered into India without a visa .this is what the mainstream media put out what she smoke where,why etc and they where 100 interview about there life how they meat ,how did they fell in love etc but no one had the sense of responsible as a journalist they didn’t even try to address manipur issue even once .This the is state of Indian media.
Press freedom : why they are not independent?

Lack of independent resources: The Indian media is dependent on the state as well as capitalists for resources.
Who owns the media company : journalist are been pressurized people published news for there owns benefit or they will not been funded them.
Lack of people interest: Journalist written what ever they want cause people never ask why they are witting this this happens cause we don’t read or we are least bothered about our surrounding.
Media is considered as the 4thpillar of a democratic country .In India that 4th pillar media is on 161th rank in press freedom index out of 180 country .I have still hope in people that they will get aware about dirty business happening in media field I will not say that every one is bad they are people who still have the responsibility of a journalist and put out some good work out there but a majority of the chunk is still in that loop of fake news clikbait so they should be a major changes should be made in this field and I hope to see it .
